Walshes Christmas Fair
The recent Christmas Fair organised by the newly formed Walshes Community Hall Action Group was a huge success. Local residents enjoyed refreshments served by St. Bartholomew’s Church volunteers, Tombola, handmade cards, books, toys and Fairtrade. Santa was also in residence for the day and was visited by nearly 30 children.
A big thank you to all volunteers who took part and helped to plan the event.

Over 70 local people enjoyed Wacky Walshes Fun Day on 27th October 2011. The rain didn't stop all day but this didn't stop everyone having a good time and enjoying the activities.

Take a look at the photo page for more images of the day.

Worcestershire Viewpoint Survey - Your chance to be heard!
Starting on Monday 24th October many people living on the Walshes will receive the latest Worcestershire County Council Viewpoint Survey through the post. Please complete the survey and post it back as it will give you the chance to have a say about your local services and comment on issues affecting our neighbourhood. It includes important questions about the local economy, community safety and satisfaction with local services and provides a real opportunity to make a difference as the results are used to inform future decision making about what services are provided and how they are delivered.
In addition to completing the survey you receive through the post you have the opportunity to join the 'Viewpoint Panel' and receive a survey twice a year - giving you an even greater opportunity to have a say. Click on the picture above to find out more.
This year the views of those under 35 are particularly welcomed as previously they have been underrepresented. However, any county resident aged 18 or over, is eligible to complete the survey. There is also the opportunity to complete the survey online. For anyone without internet access, the survey can be completed online at any of the County Council's Libraries and in Worcestershire Hub customer centres.

Vote for us and help us win £6,000 funding for the Community Centre
We have applied to NatWest’s Community Force 2011 programme. We have made it through the initial application stage and now we are 1 of 5817 projects hoping to be funded. Through the website People can vote for their favourite projects and the 3 projects with the most votes, by area, will each receive £6,000 to make their projects a reality.
If successful the funding will be used to complete a 'Community Makeover'. This involves cosmetic works such as painting and replacing soft furnishings & landscaping the garden areas to make a secure outdoor play area suitable for young children. Some funds will be used to subsidise the core running costs whilst a sustainable plan is developed. We will also produce marketing materials that will promote the centre as we want to attract established training providers to deliver from it as our area has a high level of unemployed young people.

Voting begins on 26th September and finishes on 23rd October 2011.

Lifeline for our Community Centre!
Our Community Centre has been given a lifeline in a bid to guarantee its future. With the support of The Walshes Community Partnership and Wyre Forest Community Housing, the Walshes community will be provided with the opportunity to run the centre for 12 months.
Wyre Forest Community Housing owns the centre, and despite a high level of use, it has become financially impossible to sustain. However, the Company has agreed to offer the local community the chance to develop a plan, and play an active role in making the centre sustainable.
The Walshes Community Partnership, supported by Vestia Community Trust is helping the local neighbourhood to develop a community led Volunteer Management Group that will help run the centre for a year. Volunteers will be recruited from the area and will be offered training to ensure they have the confidence and skills to get involved and make the centre a success.
Rev. Mark Turner, Chair of The Walshes Community Partnership, said: “This is now in the hands of local people. It’s going to be a difficult task but if we can achieve our goal to make the centre sustainable, it will be a source of pride, and a huge benefit for the whole community.”
Yvonne Leishman, Managing Director, Wyre Forest Community Housing, said: “We are committed to helping develop safe and sustainable communities and are pleased to be able to offer The Walshes Community Partnership and the local people the opportunity to secure the future of the Community Centre.”

Walshes Tiday Day - Tuesday 9th August 2011
The recent Walshes Tidy Day was a great success with more than 30 volunteers from the local area taking part. The litter picking equipment that was provided by Wyre Forest District Council’s Street Scene proved extremely useful as 26 bags of rubbish were collected from the whole of the Walshes estate.
Volunteers were given information leaflets on the effects of littering, fly tipping, dog fouling and graffiti with the aim of combining a practical community day with an educational theme.
To keep our “happy helpers” refreshed on the day, food and drink were provided for them by the Walshes Community Partnership. Many thanks to all volunteers who took part.
The event was organised through the newly formed Walshes Resident Support Group who are working with the Walshes Community Partnership and other partners to achieve a Cleaner, Safer, Greener Kitemark Award through Keep Britain Tidy for the Walshes area. The environmental charity that supports the Quality Mark, offers housing providers a structure to work towards that will ensure better quality neighbourhoods.
